A clear signal for Mauritius's tourism sector. From September 1, 2026, Emirates operates its Premium Economy cabin on two of its three daily flights between Dubai and Mauritius. A quality upgrade that opens new perspectives for the island and consolidates its positioning in the luxury long-haul travel market.
Two Flights, 80 Additional Premium Seats Per Day
Flights EK703/704, operated by the Airbus A380, now feature 56 Premium Economy seats alongside 76 in Business Class and 437 in Economy. Flights EK709/710, operated by a fully refurbished Boeing 777, carry 24 Premium seats. In total, 80 additional intermediate-class seats are added daily on the Dubai–Mauritius route.
Each seat offers 19.5 inches of width, adjustable headrests, integrated footrests, and a 13.3-inch touch-screen entertainment panel. Meals are served on Royal Doulton porcelain, with an extended beverage selection and sustainable amenity kits.
24 Years of Partnership, 70 Connecting Destinations
Emirates has served Mauritius since 2002, supporting «the island's development as a tourism destination and stimulating global travel demand». Through its Dubai hub (DXB), passengers connect to more than 70 destinations across Europe, Asia, and the Americas — a decisive advantage for attracting European, Asian, and Middle Eastern markets seeking premium island destinations.
The intermediate cabin targets a specific segment: honeymooners, families, professionals, and senior travellers seeking greater comfort without the Business Class fare. A strategic move that broadens the potential customer base for Mauritian hoteliers and service providers.
Why It Matters
Following record tourism revenues of MUR 30.19 billion in Q1 2026, Emirates's upgrade consolidates Mauritius's premium image. In a context of growing competition between Indian Ocean island destinations, every improvement in air connectivity matters. The new cabin should stimulate demand by widening the fare spectrum, making Mauritius accessible to upper-middle-class travellers who previously hesitated between comfort and budget. For the hotel sector, it opens a new pool of high-spending visitors.
