Mayotte's Departmental-Regional Council launched on July 20, 2026, a call for projects to fund the renewal of the professional fishing fleet. Licensed fishermen and SMEs in the sector can apply for a subsidy of up to 60% of eligible expenditure for the purchase of new vessels measuring 10 to 12 metres.
A jointly funded scheme
The funding is shared equally between the State and the Mayotte Collectivity. Applications must be submitted electronically to the Directorate of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry (DAFF) by September 14, 2026 at 11:59 PM local time. The grant will be paid in two instalments: an advance upon signing the agreement, and the balance after the vessel has been received and verified.
A strategic sector to rebuild
Fishing is a vital sector for Mayotte's economy and food security. Part of the fleet was damaged during Cyclone Chido in December 2024. This scheme aims to accelerate fishermen's return to sea, giving them access to vessels that meet modern safety standards.
For Mahorais fishermen, the stakes are also economic: more reliable vessels enable wider fishing zones, higher landing volumes, and better profitability per trip.
