The summit was held under the patronage of Malagasy Prime Minister Mamitiana Rajaonarison — a strong signal of the strategic importance placed on this bilateral partnership at the highest levels of government. On the Mauritian side, Labour Minister Muhammad Reza Cassam Uteem stressed the value of networking between business operators from both islands as a driver of regional development.
Madagascar's Minister of Industrialisation, Ny Riana Nampoina Raharimanjato, called for «strengthening commercial ties in service of regional development» — reflecting a clear political ambition to move beyond one-off exchanges and build a durable economic relationship between the two island economies.
48 hours of B2B and collaborations in the pipeline
Over two days, delegations held back-to-back bilateral meetings across sectors including agro-industry, tourism, financial services and infrastructure. Organisers confirmed that «at least three collaborations should be initiated across different sectors», to be formalised in the coming weeks.
Mauritius aims to share its expertise as a regional financial hub while helping Madagascar gain access to African distribution and financing networks where Port-Louis is well established. For Malagasy operators, this is a concrete gateway to networks that would otherwise be difficult to reach independently.
A regional economic corridor taking shape
The summit builds on years of work by the Indian Ocean Commission (IOC) to strengthen intra-regional trade. With Madagascar posting a revised 6% growth forecast for 2026, Mauritian investors have a direct strategic interest in securing positions before regional and international competition intensifies.
