On 13 and 14 August, the CCI Ivato in Antananarivo hosted an unprecedented regional economic summit. The Moris-Mada Business Connect Summit 2026 brought together some 500 entrepreneurs and economic stakeholders from both countries, with a clear mandate: turning existing trade flows into structured, lasting investments.

Ten Panels, One Clear Goal

The two-day event was structured around ten thematic panels covering agri-food, digital, logistics, tourism and financial services. Delegations from around ten sectors participated, with B2B meetings designed to enable direct contacts between Mauritian and Malagasy operators. Three concrete collaborations were initiated at the close of the summit, in sectors strategic to both economies.

The CCI Maurice-Madagascar (CCIMM), which organised the event, stressed its aim of building « durable business relations » between the two countries — capitalising on economic complementarity: Mauritius' skilled services sector and financial know-how on one side, Madagascar's natural resources and growth potential on the other.

Mauritius as Africa Gateway

The Mauritian side sent an unambiguous message: the island does not simply want to export goods to Madagascar — it wants to serve as an accelerator toward sub-Saharan African markets. Mauritius' financial and logistics expertise (freeport, banking hub, competitive taxation) should act as a springboard for Malagasy businesses seeking continental expansion.

For Madagascar, the stakes are high: the island is on track for 6% growth in 2026 with vast natural resources, yet still struggles to attract regional capital proportionate to its potential. The Mauritian partnership is seen as a credible, pragmatic lever.

Why It Matters

The Indian Ocean region suffers from insufficient economic integration. Trade between Mauritius and Madagascar remains below potential despite geographic proximity and obvious complementarities. Moris-Mada Business Connect positions the business community — chambers of commerce, sector federations, SMEs — as the engine of integration, where government accords have sometimes fallen short. It is a strong signal for the entire IOC zone.
