On October 1, 2026, the Réunion Region gathered all its economic partners for its first regional economic convention. The event took stock of five years of action and set the agenda for Act II of « La Nouvelle Économie » (The New Economy) through to 2030.
Five Years of Action, by the Numbers
Since 2021, the Region has supported or funded more than 12,000 businesses and mobilised €115 million through 14 support programmes covering business aid, investment, innovation, enterprise transformation and public procurement mobilisation.
A Strategic Agreement With Chartered Accountants
During the convention, the Region signed a partnership agreement with the Regional Council of Chartered Accountants (CROEC). The goal: strengthen information, guidance and support for Réunion's businesses — particularly micro-enterprises and SMEs, which represent more than 90% of the local economic fabric.
Targeting 2030: Energy, Digital, Industry
President Huguette Bello announced « Act II of The New Economy » for the 2026-2030 period, with three priority workstreams: the energy transition, digital transformation and industrial upgrading. She also underscored that businesses will face rapidly evolving environmental requirements and financing conditions.
Why It Matters
This convention marks the transition from emergency post-Covid policy to a long-term competitiveness strategy for Réunion. The figure of 12,000 businesses supported — out of a fabric of approximately 70,000 micro-enterprises and SMEs — indicates a significant penetration rate for regional support schemes. The CROEC agreement creates an essential grassroots relay for channelling public support into entrepreneurs' order books. By 2030, Réunion is equipping itself to reduce its import dependency and accelerate its economic transformation.
