[LA RÉUNION] Digital Transformation: €5.4 Million Mobilized to Support 8,000 SMEs

€5.4M mobilised, 8,000 SMEs targeted, sector contract signed: Réunion is structuring its digital transition with France 2030. La Réunion Connectée (formerly Réunion THD) expands its mission to full digital support.

Réunion Island's digital business transition is reaching a new scale. Since 2022, the Regional Council has mobilised €5.4 million for digital development, including an additional €2.4 million under the France 2030 programme announced in April 2026. The target is ambitious: support the digital transformation of 8,000 micro-enterprises and SMEs across the island.

A Structuring Sector Agreement

Signed on 18 February 2026 by Regional President Huguette Bello, the Digital Sector Contract brings together key local stakeholders including Réunion THD — which became La Réunion Connectée in April 2026 — and France Travail. The rebranding reflects an expanded mission: moving beyond broadband to cover full digital support for businesses and citizens alike.

Concrete Tools for Entrepreneurs

The AMI Innovation 2026 scheme, launched in February, offers two tracks: proof-of-concept funding for project holders, and equity support for young innovative companies. Early results are already measurable: in January 2026, new registrations in software programming jumped 28.6% versus December 2025, confirming genuine sectoral momentum.

Why It Matters

Réunion has a business fabric of small enterprises that are often underdigitised in a fast-moving environment. This programme positions the island as a laboratory for digital transformation in the French overseas territories, with a strong focus on Indian Ocean dynamics. The 8,000 SMEs targeted represent a significant share of the local economy — their digital upskilling will largely determine the territory's competitiveness over the next decade.
