On Thursday, 24 September 2026, the Région Réunion presented the results of its territorial attractiveness study at an enlarged Strategic Committee for Business Internationalisation (CoSIE). Launched in 2025 as part of the SRDEII 'La Nouvelle Économie' programme, the initiative aims to position the island as a regional economic hub at the crossroads of Europe, Africa and the Indian Ocean.
11 Sectors Targeted, 9 Designated Priority
The study identifies 11 key sectors for the island, nine of which are designated as priority under the 'La Nouvelle Économie' framework. The strategy does not aim to attract capital at any price, but to identify and fill the 'missing bricks' within each sector — the links whose absence still holds back local productive capacity.
Four Attractiveness Drivers
The Région structures its approach around four determinants: market access, access to production factors, collective action capacity, and economic intelligence and data mastery. Specific work is scheduled on each axis — notably with Team France Invest from October 2026 to clarify the investor welcome pathway.
Réunion Diaspora Mobilised
A first outreach to the Réunion economic diaspora was held in June at VivaTech, with a dedicated Réunion Pavilion. Mobilising this internationally scattered network is presented as a strategic asset for attracting qualified talent and capital.
CEO Summit 2027 in the Crosshairs
The next key milestone is the CEO Summit 2027, to be held on Réunion with the Région's backing, designed as a showcase for the island's economic opportunities to international decision-makers.
Why It Matters
Réunion is leveraging its unique geographical position to move beyond being a consumption market and establish itself as an investment platform for Africa and the Indian Ocean. For local businesses, this strategy opens new markets and greater international visibility.
