Réunion Island has officially been awarded the 'French Tech Capital' label for 2026-2028 — a recognition granted by the Mission French Tech that opens concrete doors: a regional pavilion at VivaTech, Europe's largest technology event, and international visibility for the island's startups. Five of them already exhibited at the 2026 edition.
VivaTech 2026: The Island Goes Global
The Regional Council co-financed the Réunion pavilion at VivaTech, with the stated goal of «enabling local entrepreneurs to shine beyond the 21st parallel south». Among the startups present, AgentVox exemplifies the local ecosystem's potential: specialised in conversational AI and advanced voice AI, it automates complete business processes and manages end-to-end customer interactions via simple phone call — no app required. A proposition particularly suited to less digitalised populations, which represents a vast market across the Indian Ocean and Africa.
AgentVox's target markets illustrate the island's regional strategy: metropolitan France, but also Mauritius, Madagascar, Comoros, Seychelles, Mayotte, East Africa and South-East Asia. The island of 860,000 inhabitants is thinking big.

The French Tech Capital 2026-2028 designation unlocks access to national acceleration programmes, annual events and an international networking platform at European scale. For Réunion startups, often constrained by geographic isolation and a small local market, this is a significant growth lever — and a strong signal to potential investors.
The Technopole de La Réunion, which has been supporting local startups for years, will also benefit from this recognition to strengthen its incubation programmes. Réunion's digital ecosystem, discreet but solid, is beginning to attract attention well beyond the Indian Ocean.
