Réunion Island will receive an additional €2.4 million in 2026 under the France 2030 Regional programme, bringing total funding since 2022 to €5.4 million. Announced on April 8, 2026, jointly by the State and the Réunion Region, the extension confirms the island's place within France's national push for industrial and ecological innovation.

Nine priority sectors, two funding tracks

The programme targets nine strategic areas: green economy, tropical urban development, decentralised energy systems, digital transition, sustainable healthcare, inclusive Creole societies, blue economy, land ecosystems and natural hazards. Two operational tracks structure the calls for projects: « Innovation Projects in Réunion », aimed at R&D-active SMEs and mid-caps, and « Sector Development Projects in Réunion », focused on structuring local economic value chains.

Since launch, the scheme has supported 66 projects. Through the regional track alone, 11 company projects received a total of €2.36 million in funding. Applications are submitted through france2030.regionreunion.com.

A lever for Réunion SMEs

The primary beneficiaries are locally based sole traders, SMEs and mid-size companies. The goal is to fund projects that cannot attract conventional private financing — particularly in tropical technologies, decentralised renewables and digital transformation of agricultural operations. For Réunion's business community, the message is clear: accelerate the local economic transformation before France 2030 wraps up.

Réunion compares favourably among France's overseas territories. Its cluster of innovative SMEs — especially in digital, energy and biotechnology — forms the natural pool for the programme. Credit absorption rates have exceeded 95% in previous years, reflecting genuine demand on the ground.

Why it matters

With €5.4 million mobilised between 2022 and 2026, France 2030 Regional is one of the few national programmes genuinely adapted to the specific conditions of overseas territories. For Réunion, the stakes go beyond a subsidy: the aim is to build future-proof sectors — energy, digital, blue economy — that reduce import dependency and create the skilled jobs that Réunion's labour market sorely needs. The 2026 autumn session is a critical window for any business that has not yet submitted an application.
