In 2026, Réunion takes a significant step in its digital transition. With €5.4 million mobilised since 2022 under the France 2030 Regionalised programme — including an additional €2.4 million granted in April 2026 — and the signing of the Digital Industry Agreement 2026-2028 in February, the island now has a coherent strategy to make tech a driver of economic diversification.
France 2030: 66 projects funded, €48.8 million generated
Since its launch, the Réunion component of France 2030 has supported 66 projects, generating a total of €48.8 million in support. Among these, 11 company-level projects received €2.36 million for R&D, proof-of-concept and equity financing programmes. The additional €2.4 million envelope validated in 2026 targets green economy, tropical construction, sustainable health and digital transition.
A framework to structure the ecosystem
The Digital Industry Agreement 2026-2028, signed on February 18, 2026, brings together the Réunion Region, the State and private players around shared objectives: accelerating digital adoption, training and attracting talent, and developing an exportable services offer. It builds on the Réunion THD strategy, now rebranded as « La Réunion Connectée », and works alongside the AMI Innovation 2026 programme launched on February 9.
Positive signals on tech employment
Business creation in computer programming is trending upward: 18 new companies in August 2025, up 50% year-on-year. In January 2026, the sector recorded 9 new companies, a 28.6% monthly increase. Regional salaried employment grew 0.2% between Q3 2024 and Q3 2025, adding 500 net new jobs, with a meaningful share in the digital sector.
8,000 SMEs and micro-businesses supported
One of the agreement's central goals is supporting the digital transformation of 8,000 micro-enterprises and SMEs across Réunion. Awareness, diagnostic and financing tools are being deployed through Digital Réunion, Solidarnum and France Travail to close the digital divide between large organisations and small local economic players.
Why it matters
Réunion has a card to play in the regional digital economy. Geographically positioned midway between Africa and Asia, with a trainable Francophone workforce and improving connectivity, the island can aspire to become a digital services hub for the entire Indian Ocean zone. The challenge remains turning these still-fragile positive signals into durable jobs and export-oriented, high-value businesses.
