A mixed international backdrop
Mauritius's performance contrasted with global equity markets. Wall Street saw a notable correction, with the Dow Jones down 1.13% and the NASDAQ falling 4.18%, hit by profit-taking in the US tech sector. European markets were mixed: London's FTSE-100 shed 0.45%, while Germany's DAX (+1.07%) and France's CAC 40 (+1.69%) advanced on stronger macro signals.
On the Development & Enterprise Market (DEM), the DEMEX stood at 222.11 and the DEMTRI at 398.57, with a total market cap of Rs 30.3 billion. The DEM's top ten performers showed annualised returns of between 7.62% and 20.02%.
Why it matters
Mauritius's resilience amid global market turbulence reinforces Port Louis's position as the Indian Ocean's regional financial anchor. As major global exchanges absorb the effects of a prolonged monetary tightening cycle, Mauritius consolidates its appeal to regional investors. Total market capitalisation on the Official Market stands at Rs 323.6 billion — a strong signal for companies considering a listing in the coming months.
