African payment infrastructure has found a new champion. South African fintech Moment closed a $22 million Series A on August 4, 2026, led by AlphaCode Venture Partners, with participation from General Catalyst, MultiChoice, Canal+, Entree Capital, Raba Partnership and Helios Investment Partners. Its total capital now stands at $55 million since launch.

An African problem, a continental answer

Moment tackles a well-documented reality: Africa does not have one payment ecosystem — it has dozens, all different by country and region. Bank cards, mobile money, transfers, eWallets, recurring payments, cash at two million physical collection sites — Moment's platform aggregates all these channels into a single omni-channel solution.

Traction is real: the company now processes 600,000 daily transactions for 10 million monthly users, serving major African brands — and this despite structural obstacles like power outages complicating operations in several markets.

An investor thinking big

AlphaCode's Dominique Collett sums up the ambition: « Moment dismantles Africa's payment complexity by delivering continental-scale solutions that the market's largest enterprises have already validated. » Canal+'s entry as a shareholder — a major media and distribution player in Francophone Africa — opens deployment prospects in markets like Madagascar, Réunion and the Comoros.

Why it matters

Francophone Africa, and particularly the Indian Ocean, remains underrepresented in major pan-African payment solutions. Canal+'s stake in Moment changes that equation: it signals potential access to Francophone markets where payment infrastructure is still fragmented. For Réunionnais, Mauritian or Malagasy companies looking to sell or expand on the continent, this convergence of payment networks is a necessary condition for growth.
