On July 10, 2026, the International Monetary Fund's Executive Board approved an immediate disbursement of **$443.9 million** to Tanzania, following the sixth and seventh reviews of the Extended Credit Facility (ECF) and the third and fourth reviews of the Resilience and Sustainability Facility (RSF). A clear vote of confidence in Dodoma's reform path.

## A Programme That Stays on Track

The disbursement breaks down into **$154.1 million** under the ECF and **$289.7 million** under the RSF, bringing cumulative disbursements to $1.063 billion and $636.5 million respectively since the programme's launch. “Tanzania's economic reform programme, supported by the ECF and RSF arrangements, has broadly remained on track,“ the IMF stated in its official communiqué.

## Solid Fundamentals Make the Case

Tanzania recorded real GDP growth of **5.9%** in 2025, with a medium-term projection of **6.2%** — one of the strongest performances in East Africa. Inflation fell to **4%** year-on-year in June 2026, a controlled figure reflecting the credibility of the central bank's monetary policy. Mining, agriculture and tourism remain the three structural engines of growth.

## Why It Matters

Beyond the liquidity injection, this disbursement sends a decisive signal to investors watching East Africa. IMF validation of Tanzania's trajectory lowers the perceived risk premium and opens the door to new bilateral and multilateral financing. In a global environment marked by geopolitical uncertainty, Tanzania is cementing its reputation as a predictable and reform-minded economic partner.

The IMF flags one significant risk: a prolonged Middle East conflict could weigh on trade flows and commodity prices. Dodoma is watching. For Indian Ocean regional players, Tanzania's trajectory sets a benchmark — a country that reforms consistently is a country that attracts capital.
