**The Seychelles Tourism Board (STB) and Kenya Airways have formalised a memorandum of understanding to strengthen air connectivity between Nairobi and Mahé, develop multi-destination packages, and align on blue economy standards. A partnership that reinforces the Indian Ocean's position as an integrated premium destination.**

## The Nairobi-Mahé corridor at the heart of the strategy

The STB-Kenya Airways partnership centres on a single core objective: making the Nairobi-Mahé corridor a major regional tourism axis. Both parties have identified this route as commercially strategic, with significant growth potential in African and Asian markets.

The first "quick win" is increased flight frequency between Nairobi and Mahé, improving access to Kenya's aviation hubs and, beyond them, East African regional connections. For Seychelles, this signals a gradual opening to the African continental market — still largely untapped.

## "Safari + Islands" multi-destination packages

The agreement includes development of packages combining Kenya's national parks — Masai Mara, Amboseli, Tsavo — with the beaches of the Seychelles archipelago. These multi-destination offerings target premium international travellers seeking to combine Africa's wide open spaces with island luxury in a single journey.

This bundled strategy responds to a fundamental trend: high-income travellers are seeking combined experiences, reducing the number of separate trips while maximising value per journey. For Seychelles, it also offers a path to extending average length of stay.

## Blue economy as a shared horizon

The blue economy dimension of the agreement reflects a shared vision between two nations whose prosperity is intrinsically linked to the ocean. Seychelles and Kenya are committing to align their sustainability standards for maritime tourism, marine ecosystem protection and responsible coastal development.

This regulatory convergence is a meaningful competitive advantage: destinations that can demonstrate harmonised environmental standards increasingly attract travellers who prioritise sustainability in their travel decisions.

## Why it matters

For Seychelles, opening the African market via Nairobi diversifies a visitor base long dominated by Europeans and Asians. For Kenya, positioning Nairobi as a transit hub to the archipelago reinforces its role as East Africa's aviation crossroads. This type of regional integration is precisely what the Indian Ocean needs to develop to assert itself as a coherent economic zone against competing destinations.
