With a GDP per capita of $17,670 and an IMF growth projection of 3.4% for 2027, the Seychelles is showing the most robust economic momentum in its recent history. Tourism, the blue economy and green finance are its three pillars.

## Tourism Back on a Record Trajectory

Tourist arrivals grew by 13% in 2025\. The Seychellois strategy is built on a "high value, low impact" approach: modernising hotel infrastructure, quality selection of visitors and preservation of the marine ecosystem. The policy pays: the archipelago maintains some of the highest visitor spending levels in Africa.

## The Blue Economy as a Structural Engine

With an exclusive economic zone of 1.3 million square kilometres, the Seychelles accounts for 20% of global tuna production. The national strategy bets on local processing — rather than exporting raw material — and innovative financial instruments: the archipelago has issued sovereign blue bonds to finance marine ecosystem protection, an African first.

## A Financial Centre Moving Upmarket

The Seychelles Financial Services Authority oversees a diversified ecosystem: trusts, investment funds, insurance and virtual assets. A BB rating from Fitch Ratings, an OECD "Largely Compliant" status and removal from the EU tax blacklist signal rising international credibility.

## Why It Matters

The Seychelles demonstrates that a small island state can build a diversified and resilient economy. The model — premium tourism, value-added fisheries, responsible finance — is a reference for other Indian Ocean islands seeking to break out of excessive dependence on a single sector.
