**Rwanda is confirming its status as East Africa's economic locomotive. In the first quarter of 2026, GDP grew 10% year-on-year, reaching RWF 6.346 trillion (approximately USD 4.5 billion). A performance that places Kigali at the top of the continent's most dynamic economies.**

## Industry as the Primary Driver

Industry recorded **13% growth**, driven by three key sectors: mining and quarrying (**+20%**), manufacturing (+15%), and construction (+11%). A combination that reflects the industrial upgrading underway for several years under the Vision 2050 economic diversification policy.

## Services: 52% of GDP Accelerating

Services, which account for more than half of Rwanda's GDP, grew 7%. Telecoms stood out with **+22%**, boosted by expanding digital connectivity and 4G/5G infrastructure rollout. Trade (+11%) and administrative services (+20%) round out the picture.

## Agriculture Regains Momentum

With 8% growth, agriculture posted a solid performance. Export crops — tea, coffee, pyrethrum — surged **39%**, a spectacular rise that significantly improves the country's trade balance. Staple food crops, more stable, grew 3%.

## Why It Matters

In an uncertain global environment — trade tensions, pressure on African sovereign debt — Rwanda stands as an exception. According to Kigali's Ministry of Finance, this result *«reflects the momentum recorded through government economic recovery policies.»* For regional investors across the Indian Ocean, Kigali is strengthening its appeal as an East African business hub: developing capital markets, advanced digital infrastructure, recognised political stability. A double-digit rate that, if maintained over the full year, would propel Rwanda among Africa's five best-performing economies in 2026.
