Statistics Mauritius data for July 2026 confirm a solid high season: **136,162 tourists** visited the island in July alone, a **+5.4%** increase year-on-year. Since January 1st, Mauritius has welcomed **804,633 visitors**, up 2.1% from the same period in 2025.

## Europe Holds, Asia Accelerates

The European market remains the foundation: 491,373 arrivals over seven months, modestly up +0.2%. France leads with 180,034 visitors (+0.3%), followed by the United Kingdom (72,609, down 14.6%) and Germany, which emerges as the year's standout market with **70,476 visitors, +15.4%**.

It is Asia that has drawn analysts' attention most. With 104,758 arrivals, this market surged **+14.4%**, driven by India (51,005 visitors, +14.5%) and the Middle East (26,549, +10.5%). Hoteliers in Grand Baie note that «the Indian market is now our most dynamic growth lever.»

## The Regional Neighbourhood: Top African Contributor

Africa accounts for 179,463 arrivals (+1.6%), dominated by Réunion (82,411 visitors), which remains the leading proximity market, followed by South Africa (62,576, +6.4%). The average length of stay stands at **11.3 nights**, stable versus 2025.

On the revenue side, H1 2026 generated **MUR 55.89 billion** in tourism receipts, reassuring an industry that had navigated global geopolitical headwinds. Maritime arrivals jumped +55%, reflecting the growth of cruise stopovers at Port Louis.

## Why It Matters

Tourism accounts for roughly 20% of Mauritius's GDP. Diversifying toward Asia — long underexploited — reduces over-dependence on European demand and builds resilience against economic shocks. If the trend holds through August and September, the government's annual target of 1.4 million tourists looks within reach, supporting both jobs and foreign exchange earnings.
