**With 804,633 visitors welcomed between January and July 2026 and tourism revenue of Rs 55.89 billion over the first six months, Mauritius is cementing its growth trajectory — driven by a strong Asian surge and a remarkable 55% rebound in maritime arrivals.**

## July 2026: A standout month

July recorded 136,162 tourist arrivals, up **5.4%** compared to July 2025 (129,206 visitors). Over the first seven months of the year, the cumulative total reached 804,633 arrivals, versus 788,115 in the same period in 2025 — a 2.1% increase. Statistics Mauritius data confirms a positive trend, though growth remains moderate overall.

## Europe leads, Asia accelerates

European markets remain dominant with 491,373 visitors (+0.2%), driven by Germany (+15.4%) and Russia (+5.8%), offsetting a decline from the UK (-14.6%). France, the top market with 180,034 visitors, shows a slight dip (-0.3%).

The standout trend of 2026, however, is the surge in Asian visitors: 104,758 arrivals, up **14.4%** year-on-year. China jumped 21.2%, India 14.5%, and the Middle East 10.5%. This geographic rebalancing highlights Mauritius's growing appeal as a premium destination for emerging market travellers.

## Maritime tourism: the year's big surprise

Maritime tourism is booming: 23,804 sea arrivals in the first seven months, versus 15,353 in 2025 — a **55%** increase. This reflects the development of cruise stopovers and the return of private yacht traffic. The average length of stay holds steady at 11.3 nights, signalling sustained visitor engagement.

## Why it matters

Tourism remains one of the pillars of the Mauritian economy, with Rs 55.89 billion in revenue over the first six months. The government's 1.4 million visitor target for the full year remains ambitious, and the second half — traditionally stronger — will need to deliver. Asia's structural rise reshapes the market map: an opportunity to recalibrate hotel offerings and air connectivity.
