**Mauritius welcomed 927,735 international visitors between January and August 2026**, a 2.7% increase compared to the same period in 2025 (903,606 tourists). A solid performance, driven by a spectacular surge from Asian markets and a sharply accelerating August.

## France Still Leads, Asia Surging

France confirms its position as the top source market with **205,838 visitors** in the first eight months of the year. Germany posts the strongest growth among established European markets at **+15.8%** (81,928 visitors), while India maintains strong momentum at **+14.2%** (58,007 visitors).

The standout trend, however, is the performance of Asian markets overall: **+29.6%** year-on-year. A surge that reflects Mauritius's growing attractiveness to travelers from South and Southeast Asia, fueled by expanding direct air links and the upmarket repositioning of Mauritian hotel supply.

By contrast, Réunion dipped slightly (-5%, 91,816 arrivals) and the United Kingdom posted a sharper decline (-11.8%, 85,549 visitors), amid weakening British consumer spending power.

## August 2026: A +18% Acceleration

August is the year's most encouraging signal: **123,102 tourists** arrived in Mauritius, a **+18%** jump versus August 2025\. This figure confirms the sector has entered a sustained upward trajectory well beyond simple consolidation.

Air travel remains dominant (903,497 arrivals, +1.8%) but maritime arrivals are surging at **+53.3%** (24,238 arrivals) — a sign of growing cruise and maritime tourism offerings across the Indian Ocean.

## Why It Matters

These figures come as Mauritius has unveiled its ambitious 2026-2027 budget and rolled out its national fintech strategy. Confirmation of a positive tourism trajectory is a strong signal to investors: the island's economic model rests on the complementarity between growing premium tourism and a rapidly modernizing financial sector. The target of **1.4 million visitors** for the full year — already two-thirds of the way there by August — looks well within reach.
