**The Stock Exchange of Mauritius closed the week of 7 October 2026 in negative territory.** The SEMTRI total return index fell 0.66% to 11,370.45 points, while the SEMDEX ended the session at 2,308.90 points. Overall market capitalisation on the Official Market remains solid at MUR 324.4 billion.

Of 63 listed securities, 11 advanced, 33 held steady and 19 declined. Weekly turnover reached MUR 428.2 million, led by MCB Group (MUR 167.1M), CM Diversified Credit (MUR 95M) and MUA (MUR 65.3M).

## Top performers

NewGold ETF posted the week's strongest gain at +4.74%, reflecting sustained investor appetite for gold amid global uncertainties. Alteo rose +4.63%, followed by MUA (+2.38%), United Docks (+1.67%) and Mauritius Oil Refineries (+1.52%).

## Biggest decliners

Almarys suffered the sharpest drop at -7.27%, ahead of New Mauritius Hotels (-4.76%) — pointing to profit-taking on hotel stocks after recent gains — Lottotech (-4.40%), CIM Financial Services (-4.26%) and PIM (-3.66%).

## DEM pulls back

The Development & Enterprise Market closed with the DEMEX at 223.91 points and DEMTRI at 402.89 points. DEM capitalisation stands at MUR 30.7 billion on a weekly turnover of MUR 6.4 million.

## International backdrop

Global markets delivered a mixed picture: the NASDAQ surged +2.99% and the Dow Jones edged up +0.33%. European markets lagged, with the CAC 40 down -2.13% and the FTSE 100 off -0.89%.

## Why it matters

The modest weekly pullback is not alarming — market cap remains robust at MUR 324 billion. The rotation into NewGold ETF and Alteo points to cautious end-of-quarter rebalancing. Hotel and financial sectors remain under pressure and warrant close monitoring as Q4 2026 begins. Source: L'Express Maurice / Stock Exchange of Mauritius.
