Mauritius's Economic Development Board has recorded a declared investment portfolio of **Rs 649.7 billion** across **250 projects**, according to its August 2026 newsletter — a strong signal of investor confidence in the island's economy.

## A massive pipeline, 21% already active

Of this total, **Rs 138.8 billion** — representing 21% of the overall envelope — is already in active deployment: construction financing, equipment acquisition, operational launches, and job creation. The remaining Rs 412 billion forms a pipeline awaiting execution, largely concentrated on large-scale multi-phase infrastructure projects.

## Three leading sectors

Energy leads with **44 declared projects** worth **Rs 23 billion**, focused on renewable transition and distributed power infrastructure. Healthcare accounts for **28 projects**, in line with Mauritius's strategy to become a regional services hub. Education follows with **21 projects** aimed at diversifying the economy beyond financial services.

Flagship initiatives include mixed-use developments, smart city projects, and renewable energy systems deployed over multiple years.

## The EDB's role: unblocking bottlenecks

The EDB highlights its central role in delivering this pipeline: "facilitating approvals, resolving bottlenecks, coordinating across government agencies, while lending support to promoters" to ensure successful project implementation. This active facilitator posture — rather than a purely regulatory one — is a key differentiator for international promoters.

## Why it matters

Rs 649.7 billion in the pipeline is equivalent to a decade of construction activity for the island. The energy transition, high-value services development, and urban infrastructure modernisation are the three pillars of Vision 2050\. This pipeline reflects a Mauritian economy investing massively in structural transformation — with the means to match its ambitions, sector by sector.
