**Antananarivo hosted the Moris Mada Business Connect on 13-14 August 2026 — the major bilateral economic forum between Mauritius and Madagascar.** Around **250 companies** from both countries participated in this 48-hour event, the most structuring ever organised in the framework of Mauritius-Madagascar business relations, with the objective of « transforming exchanges into investments ».

## A forum at the heart of regional ambitions

The event, co-organised by the Chamber of Commerce and Industry Mauritius-Madagascar (CCIMM) and institutional partners from both countries, brought together business leaders, investors, public representatives and financial actors around sectoral roundtables, pitching sessions and scheduled B2B meetings. Priority sectors identified include agro-industry, tourism, information technology, port logistics and renewable energies.

Mauritius, which has one of the most favourable regulatory and financial frameworks on the African continent, positions itself as the natural gateway for capital flows into Madagascar. Mauritius regularly tops African business environment indices, and its operators are looking to deploy their expertise in a Malagasy market of 30 million inhabitants with considerable agricultural and tourism potential.

## Towards a lasting structure for bilateral relations

Beyond one-off meetings, the Moris Mada Business Connect aims to lay the foundations for sustainable economic cooperation. Organisers announced a follow-up mechanism for commitments made at the forum, with quarterly reviews of projects under consideration and a facilitation mechanism for obtaining administrative authorisations in both countries.

« The Indian Ocean can only develop if its members truly cooperate — not just by signing declarations, but by investing in each other », said a CCIMM representative at the close of the summit. Formal bilateral trade between Mauritius and Madagascar remains below its potential, largely due to logistical barriers and mutual unfamiliarity with opportunities.

## Favourable regional context

This forum comes amid accelerating regional economic integration in the Indian Ocean. The Economic Partnership Agreement between the European Union and Eastern and Southern Africa (ESA), of which Mauritius and Madagascar are members, opens new export opportunities to Europe. Bringing the two economies closer could create competitive regional supply chains, particularly in food processing and textiles.

## Why it matters

Mauritius and Madagascar share a geography, a history and economic complementarities that are rare in the region. Mauritius brings capital, financial expertise and international connectivity; Madagascar offers land, natural resources and a labour pool. If the Moris Mada Business Connect commitments translate into concrete projects, this bilateral axis could become one of the engines of regional economic integration for years to come.
