## MUR 270 million for residential solar

The solar subsidy programme aims to accelerate renewable energy adoption in the residential sector, where dependence on fossil fuel imports weighs heavily on household bills and the national balance of payments. Precise terms of access — caps, income conditions, eligible installation types — will be detailed in implementing regulations expected in the coming weeks.

## Inter-ministerial committee for renewable land

An inter-ministerial committee will oversee the allocation of public land for renewable energy projects, addressing one of the key bottlenecks in Mauritius's solar and wind sector: land availability in a densely populated island under real-estate pressure. The national target is to raise renewables' share of the electricity mix to 60% by 2030.

## Carbon market with la Francophonie and COP31

Mauritius is also structuring a carbon market framework with the Organisation Internationale de la Francophonie (OIF) — a pioneering move in the French-speaking world that could position the island as a regional carbon offset platform. The country is also confirming strong participation in COP31, to be held in Turkey, where small island states will play a central role in climate adaptation negotiations.
