Mauritius will host the 18th US-Africa Business Summit from December 6–9, 2026 — the largest economic gathering between the United States and the African continent. The choice cements the island's role as a key bridge between Western economies and Africa.

## A Memorandum Signed at the UN

The Corporate Council on Africa (CCA) and the Mauritian government formalised the agreement on September 24, 2025, on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly in New York. A memorandum of understanding was signed by Florizelle Liser, CCA President and CEO, and Dhananjay Ramful, Mauritius Minister of Foreign Affairs, Regional Integration and International Trade.

« Mauritius was selected for its political stability, reform-oriented economy and strategic position between Africa and Asia in the Indian Ocean, » the CCA stated in its official press release. The event will be held at the Swami Vivekananda International Conference Centre (SVICC) in Port Louis.

## Towering Commercial Ambitions

The previous edition, held in Angola in 2025, generated more than **$4 billion in trade agreements**, brought together 12 heads of state, 400 government officials and more than 2,800 in-person attendees. The Mauritius edition carries the theme *« Advancing New Frontiers in U.S.-Africa Prosperity »*.

Sessions will cover six priority sectors: financial services, information technology, renewable energy, blue economy, manufacturing, and tourism — all areas where Mauritius already demonstrates continent-level competitiveness.

## Why It Matters

For Mauritius, hosting an event of this scale means far more than visibility. It confirms a strategic positioning the island has cultivated for decades: serving as a bridge between mature economies in Europe and North America and the emerging markets of sub-Saharan Africa.

The Indian Ocean is asserting itself as a leading commercial corridor — and Mauritius intends to be its hub. The deals signed in December could channel foreign direct investment flows across the region, benefiting island economies and continental partners alike such as Kenya, Ethiopia or Côte d'Ivoire.

For Indian Ocean decision-makers, December 2026 is a date not to miss.
