On September 18, 2026, BGFIBank Madagascar officially unveiled **Gasy Money**, its new mobile banking application. Launched at a ceremony at the Carlton Hotel in Anosy, Antananarivo, the platform aims to transform access to financial services in a country where the vast majority of the population remains unbanked.

## Universal access, no prerequisites

Gasy Money's defining feature is its universality. Unlike most existing mobile banking solutions, the app requires no prior bank account and no specific telecom operator. It is open to all Malagasies, whether they are BGFIBank clients or not, regardless of whether they hold an Airtel, Telma, or Orange line.

Antoine Evrad Evouna Ossi, CEO of BGFIBank Madagascar, summed up the ambition: « Parce que nous protégeons ce qui compte vraiment » — Because we protect what truly matters. The bank aims to position itself not merely as a traditional financial institution, but as an active driver of national economic inclusion.

## Five service categories

Gasy Money covers five functional areas: account funding (via Cash Points, partner agencies, or bank transfer); withdrawals at ATMs, branches, and partner points; direct merchant payments from mobile; remote prepaid card reload; and transfers between Gasy Money accounts, to bank accounts, or to Mobile Money partners including Airtel Money. The app has been available on Google Play and the App Store since September 18, 2026.

## A booming market

BGFIBank's entry into mobile payments in Madagascar arrives amid intensifying competition between telecom operators (Airtel Money, Orange Money, Telma's Mvola) and banking players. The BGFIBank Group, which adopted a 2026-2030 strategic plan centred on pan-African digital transformation, is betting on interoperability and its continental network to stand apart.

Madagascar ranks among Africa's highest-potential fintech markets, with steadily rising mobile penetration and growing demand for decentralised financial services accessible in rural areas.

## Why it matters

The Gasy Money launch is part of Africa's broader financial leapfrogging dynamic: bypassing traditional banking infrastructure to connect millions directly to the formal economy via smartphones. For Madagascar — one of the world's poorest countries — each new financial inclusion service is a direct lever for economic development. BGFIBank is betting that tomorrow's banking runs through mobile. It is staking its claim today.
