**Réunion Island receives an additional €2.4 million under the France 2030 Regionalised programme for 2026, bringing the total to €5.4 million since its launch in 2022\. Co-funded by the French State and the Réunion Region, this scheme has already supported 66 projects totalling €48.8 million in grants.**

## A Programme Scaling Up

France 2030 Regionalised targets Réunion's SMEs and mid-sized firms, as well as research organisations. The most recent regional tranche funds 11 new business projects for €2.36 million. Applications are assessed against nine strategic domains jointly defined by the State and the Region: green economy, tropical urban planning, decarbonised energy systems, digital transition, sustainable health, inclusive Creole societies, blue economy, terrestrial ecosystems, and natural risk management.

## The New Economy, Act II

This France 2030 reinforcement comes in a broader context: the Réunion Region has launched Act II of its New Economy strategy, taking stock of 12,000 businesses supported since 2021\. The new focus is on internationalising Réunion companies and strengthening their competitiveness across the Indian Ocean basin.

## Key Targeted Sectors

Réunion's innovation ecosystem is built around its comparative advantages: unique biodiversity, strategic geographic position between Africa and Asia, a centre of medical high technology (reference university hospital), and expertise in energy transition. Several of the 11 newly funded projects reportedly involve the blue economy and renewable energies.

## Why It Matters

Réunion has an innovation ecosystem that remains undervalued at the regional level. These €2.4 million are not just a subsidy — they signal to potential partners across Africa and the Indian Ocean that the island is a serious R&D platform, backed by a robust European framework. A strong commercial argument for attracting co-investments.
