On 1 October 2026, the Réunion Regional Council gathered its economic players for the first major convention of the current mandate. Five years of results were on the table — and a roadmap for the next five was unveiled: the island officially enters Act II of its New Economy programme.

## €115 million invested, 12,000 businesses supported

Since 2021, the Region has mobilised **€115 million** of its own funds across 14 dedicated economic support schemes. The outcome is tangible: more than **12,000 businesses** have been accompanied or financed in an economic landscape where small businesses account for over 90% of the fabric.

The flagship FAIRE scheme issued 240 loans worth €30 million — 96% to micro-enterprises. KAP TPE supported 171 companies, preserving 227 jobs and projecting 175 new ones. PRIM'EXPORT helped 161 businesses access international markets through 271 applications, totalling €2.17 million. Regional public procurement reached €350 million annually, channelled into local infrastructure and services.

## Three pillars for Act II: 'root, accelerate, unite'

President Huguette Bello officially launched Act II under three strategic ambitions. In practice, the Region will support businesses through disruptions driven by **artificial intelligence**, **robotics**, and **digital transformation**, while accelerating energy transitions and boosting the creative and local production industries.

New measures include an **e-invoicing support scheme** planned for end of 2026, a strengthened early-warning mechanism to prevent business failures, and field consultation workshops. A partnership agreement was also signed with the Regional Council of Chartered Accountants (CROEC) to sharpen support for local entrepreneurs.

## Why it matters

Act II arrives at a critical moment. Réunion's economy — dominated by under-capitalised micro and small enterprises — is acutely exposed to the AI and automation shock. By committing €115 million from its own budget over five years, without waiting for EU funding alone, the Region is proving it can act swiftly. The challenge for Act II will be to structurally transform an economy still too dependent on imports and public contracts, turning digital innovation into a genuine local competitiveness driver.
