The Nairobi International Financial Centre (NIFC) has just certified 15 new companies operating in digital finance, artificial intelligence, climate markets, and healthcare, bringing the total of certified firms to 16\. These certifications pave the way for over USD 200 million in investments (KES 25.8 billion) and the creation of more than 1,000 direct and indirect jobs.

## A cutting-edge financial ecosystem

Among the 15 new entities are Bupa Global Insurance Limited, Valr Capital Limited, ReportsAI Limited, Afrex Technologies Limited, and Africa First Exchange (A1X). These players cover strategic niches: carbon markets, capital innovation, healthcare, and financial technologies. The NIFC has also signed cooperation agreements with the financial centres of Qatar, Astana (Kazakhstan), and Casablanca.

## Nairobi: continental financial hub

This momentum is part of Nairobi's strategy to establish itself as the leading financial centre in sub-Saharan Africa. Meanwhile, Kenya leads Africa in startup funding with USD 984 million raised in 2025, and the Nairobi Stock Exchange recently approached KES 3.7 trillion in market capitalisation. Strategic partnerships with global financial centres (Qatar, Kazakhstan, Morocco) position Nairobi as a key node for international capital in Africa.

## Why it matters

NIFC certification offers companies significant tax and regulatory advantages to attract foreign capital. For the Indian Ocean and East Africa, Nairobi acts as an amplifier: investors who enter there often seek to deploy capital across the entire region, including Mauritius and Madagascar. This expansion strengthens the India-Africa investment corridor, whose combined potential is estimated at USD 7 trillion.
