**Launched in February 2026, the Outsourcing Alliance of Kenya (OAK) brings together key players in Kenya's digital outsourcing sector. With a 100,000-job target, targeted government training programmes, and solid digital infrastructure, Kenya aims to establish itself as the continent's Global Business Services hub.**

## OAK: a structured showcase for Kenyan BPO

The Outsourcing Alliance of Kenya brings together major players: CCI Kenya, CloudFactory Kenya, Teleperformance Kenya, and Sama Kenya. It aims to surpass **20 members** by mid-2026 to structure a previously fragmented sector. John Tanui, Principal Secretary for ICT and the Digital Economy, publicly endorsed the initiative — a strong signal of government commitment.

## 100,000 jobs: an ambition rooted in youth

The stated objective is to create **100,000 positions** across the Global Business Services value chain (BPO and outsourced IT services). In a country where the official unemployment rate stands at **5.2%** but youth underemployment is a structural concern, OAK leverages two flagship government programmes: *Ajira Digital* and *Jitume*, which train young Kenyans in the digital skills sought by international clients.

## Fertile ground for African outsourcing

Kenya benefits from solid digital infrastructure with **48% internet penetration**, a young, English-speaking, and increasingly skilled workforce, and a favourable geographic position for serving European, American, and Middle Eastern markets. Nairobi has progressively established itself as Africa's tech nerve centre, having overtaken Lagos in regional venture capital attraction in 2025.

## Why it matters

The emergence of a structured BPO industry in Kenya illustrates the growing maturity of Africa's digital ecosystem. For Indian Ocean businesses — Mauritius at the forefront with its own digital finance ambitions — Kenya's model is a benchmark: proving that an African country can capture value in the global digital chain, not merely consume it. A path that Mauritius, with its National FinTech Strategy 2026-2030, also intends to follow.
