**From October 15 to 17, 2026**, Nairobi's Sarit Expo Centre hosts the Africa Blockchain Festival under the theme *"Capital, Code and Continuity: Building Africa's Permanent Digital Economy."* Bringing together **over 1,000 companies** and delegations from five continents, the event has established itself as the continent's leading gathering for decentralised technology, digital finance and the technologies of tomorrow.

## Three Days at the Frontier of Finance

The programme combines high-level keynotes, technical workshops and investor showcases. Core topics include blockchain and artificial intelligence, digital finance and financial inclusion, cybersecurity and digital identity, cross-border payments, real-asset tokenisation and stablecoins. African startups share the stage with global tech firms, venture capital funds, regulators and government officials. The event is co-organised by the Africa Blockchain Festival and Ahmed Refaie's World Token Summit.

## Nairobi: The Continent's Undisputed Digital Hub

Kenya has been at the forefront for years: M-Pesa showed the world that mobile payments can transform an economy within a decade. Today, Nairobi is home to hundreds of fintech startups and benefits from a progressive regulatory framework. "Blockchain gives Africa an opportunity to build the digital foundations that future generations deserve," says Olubunmi Fabanwo, co-founder of the Festival. For the Indian Ocean region, advances in cross-border payments and digital identity open up direct financial corridors between Mauritius, Réunion and the continent's major markets.

## A Continent That No Longer Waits: It Invents

With **60% of its population under 25** and still-high rates of financial exclusion, Africa represents the world's largest potential market for blockchain adoption. Those converging on Nairobi in October are not simply chasing opportunities — they are writing the rules of a digital economy that has yet to find its established model anywhere in the world.

## Why This Matters

Each edition of the Africa Blockchain Festival draws more capital and investment decisions. For economic actors across the Indian Ocean — Mauritian fintechs, Réunion telecoms operators, Malagasy banks — the Nairobi event has become an unmissable barometer of the trends that will shape the region over the next five years. Watching Nairobi means anticipating the Indian Ocean's future.
