**The Comoros Central Bank's 2025 Annual Report, published on 28 August 2026, reveals a financial sector in full transformation.** Assets surging 14%, credit reviving, and reserve requirement reforms signal a durable structural shift for the Indian Ocean archipelago.

## Assets Up 14% Year-on-Year

Total banking sector assets reached **262.3 billion Comorian francs** at end-2025, up from 229.4 billion the previous year — a 14% increase (source: Banque Centrale des Comores). Gross customer credit distribution also accelerated, rising **8%** to 145.8 billion francs.

This performance reflects a favorable macro backdrop: Comoros GDP grew **3.8%** in 2025, the best result since the pandemic, while inflation fell to 3.3% from 5.1% in 2024.

## A Decisively Pro-Growth Monetary Policy

The BCC held its benchmark rate steady at 3% while cutting reserve requirements from **12.5% to 10%** in Q4, a move that frees additional lending capacity at a time when the archipelago's bancarization rate remains limited.

«The Comorian banking sector has entered a phase of structural consolidation», Financial Afrik noted in September 2026\. Credit portfolio quality is improving, and several institutions are reporting notable profitability gains.

## Payment Modernization and Financial Inclusion

Beyond the headline numbers, the central bank has accelerated payment infrastructure modernization to expand access to formal financial services. The archipelago is also benefiting from a modernized economic partnership agreement with the EU, creating a favorable framework for attracting foreign capital.

## Why It Matters

A strong banking sector is the prerequisite for productive investment. If the 2025 momentum carries into 2026, Comoros could become a more attractive destination for regional and international investors — a meaningful shift for an Indian Ocean nation long overshadowed by its neighbors.
