The International Monetary Fund has validated the **fifth review of Comoros's economic programme**, immediately unlocking **3.56 million Special Drawing Rights (SDRs), approximately $4.92 million**. Since the programme's launch in June 2023, Comoros has received a cumulative total of 28.62 million SDRs under this Extended Credit Facility arrangement.

## Improving Indicators

The IMF notes that "despite certain delays observed in 2025, programme performance is judged broadly satisfactory." Economic growth reached **3.8% in 2025** and is projected to accelerate to **4.1% in 2026**. Inflation, which peaked at 7.3% in March 2025, has fallen to **1.9% in October 2025**, a significant decline reflecting the gradual stabilisation of the Comorian economy.

## Solid Reserves

Foreign exchange reserves now cover **more than eight months of imports**, providing a comfortable buffer against external shocks. The current account deficit is contained at around 3% of GDP. These figures reflect a gradual consolidation trajectory, even as the IMF identifies ongoing structural reform challenges.

## Priority Reforms

The institution expects progress on several fronts: strengthening domestic revenue mobilisation through fiscal and customs reforms, consolidating the financial sector including postal bank restructuring, improving public finance governance, and enhancing financial supervision. The business climate and climate change adaptation are also among the stated priorities.

## Why It Matters

For Comoros, this validation sends a confidence signal from the international community that facilitates access to other multilateral financing. In an archipelago where the economic fabric remains fragile and dependent on diaspora transfers, macroeconomic stabilisation is the essential foundation for attracting private investment. The Indian Ocean region is watching this consolidation journey with interest, as small island states seek to diversify their development models.
