**The Regional Securities Exchange (BRVM) closed the July 29, 2026 session in negative territory, with overall market capitalisation falling by FCFA 35.102 billion. A contained pullback, yet one that confirms the consolidation trend building across West African markets through July.**

## A Pressured Session for the Regional Bourse

The BRVM — the shared stock exchange for eight WAEMU member states — saw its total market capitalisation drop by **FCFA 35.102 billion** in a single session, settling at 31,566.342 billion from 31,601.444 billion FCFA. The equity segment shed FCFA 19.253 billion while the bond compartment lost 15.849 billion. Daily transaction volume fell to **FCFA 1.956 billion**, down from 2.027 billion the previous day.

## Indices Mostly in the Red

The BRVM Composite, the headline index, slipped **0.10%** to 482.21 points. The BRVM 30, grouping the thirty most liquid stocks, declined **0.20%** to 229.27 points. The BRVM Principal posted the steepest drop among major indices at **\-0.49%**, settling at 365.36 points. Only the BRVM Prestige held up, gaining **+0.32%** to 177.51 points — reflecting selective appetite for large-cap names.

## Sharp Swings Signal Sector Rotation

The session was driven by polarised price action. Top gainers included **Unilever Côte d'Ivoire** (+7.49%), **SICOR** (+7.46%) and **Oragroup Togo** (+7.45%). On the downside, **ETI Togo** slumped **\-7.25%**, followed by EVIOSYS Packaging (-5.00%) and Solibra (-4.56%). The spread points to sector rotation — capital shifting from banking and agribusiness toward consumer staples — rather than broad-based capital flight.

CFAO (-3.01%) and CIE (-3.26%) also weighed on overall performance, while SAFCA (+7.42%) and Sucrivoire (+4.72%) provided notable support to the agricultural segment.

## Why It Matters

The BRVM serves as a key financial barometer for a region of over 130 million people, with a combined capitalisation exceeding FCFA 31,500 billion. A 35-billion decline represents less than 0.11% of total market cap — contained by any measure — but it forms part of a broader consolidation underway since early July. For Indian Ocean investors tracking African markets as a diversification avenue, this correction may offer an entry point into fundamentally strong consumer names. Half-year results from several listed companies are expected by end of August 2026, a catalyst that could restore visibility and reignite the upward trend.
