EV.Tech, the pioneer of electric vehicle charging infrastructure in Côte d'Ivoire, has received a strategic investment from Enko Capital under its Francophone West Africa SME Strategy. The startup already operates **70 charging stations** across the country, in an electric mobility sector that remains largely underdeveloped in West Africa.

## A sector just starting, a player already ahead

Electric mobility in sub-Saharan Africa is still in its infancy. The car fleet is dominated by imported second-hand petrol vehicles, and charging infrastructure is near non-existent in most cities. EV.Tech is making the opposite bet: build the infrastructure first to create the conditions for electric vehicle adoption in Côte d'Ivoire and, eventually, across French-speaking Africa. With 70 stations already operational, the startup has a significant head start over potential competitors.

## Enko Capital: strategic investor in African SMEs

Enko Capital is a fund specialising in high-potential African SMEs. Its decision to invest in EV.Tech fits within its Francophone West Africa strategy, targeting companies contributing to the structural transformation of West African economies. The undisclosed investment should allow EV.Tech to accelerate deployment and improve its services.

## Why it matters

The energy transition is a global challenge, but its modalities differ profoundly by territory. In Africa, electric mobility presents a unique opportunity: leapfrogging an entire generation of fossil fuel infrastructure to go directly electric. Côte d'Ivoire, with its greening energy mix and expanding economy, is one of the most fertile grounds for this transition. Indian Ocean players interested in sustainable mobility — in Réunion and Mauritius alike — will need to follow these African experiments closely.
